USN Attack Aircraft

Page history last edited by Si Tyler 4 mos ago

Following the amount of work that detailing USN Aircraft generated I have broken the page up into management pieces.  This page covers the USN Attack Aircraft.  Light and Medium squadrons bore the brunt of the effort in Route Package 6B.  This will detail the efforts of the A-4, A-6 and A-7 aircraft in my collection.

A-4 Skyhawk - Some of my earliest aircraft were the A-4C model from TD.  Dom's decals at the rear, with some free hand rescue detail to the front.  Note to self.  Need to redo these at some point.

A-6 Intruder - One of the later releases from TD was the A-6 Intruder.  The model is loaded for bear with TER under each wing and belly stores.  Unfortunately as I use rare earth magnetics I had to remove the Belly stores to get the magnet on.  These are two of the initial 4 models did decals for (this was the first decal project I did so quality and size/scale/placement definitely to be looked at again.

I have 5 more in progress, but for Downtown you only have the option of 2 flights of A-6 bombers and 2 SEAD tasked airframes so you only need 4 models.  You can have a lot more in a game of Thud Ridge so I will cover all bases in the fullness of time.  Just to say though that these 5 will go on the back of the paint queue.

A-7 Corsair - In the Thud Ridge starter pack came a pack of A-7 Corsairs.  They went straight to the reserves bench as I concentrated on Skyhawks and F-8 crusaders.  After knocking up a couple of fighters I thought it would be about time I looked after the mud movers.  The Corsair tail art is better IMHO than that of the fighters.  But with my usual problem of printing colour I had to be a bit conservative.  VA-146 got the honours first.  The TD model has the RWR lower than it should be which meant that as I had rushed in and painted the base coats the Decal didn't sit right.  The next ones will have the RWR filed off and replaced in the correct postion with some styrene.

This one has the TER from the TD A-10 set added.  Freehand isn't very good and needs fixing later.

Part of the refresh work is updating a decal set specifically for CVW-16 on the USS Oriskany which is progressing well to the point that I have just sent out a set of tester decals to my US colleague
